Wood Rot – Premium Naturally Decayed Hardwood

Available in 4" x 6" & 6" x 9" Bags | Khaveman's Reptiles

Bring the natural forest floor into your enclosure with Premium Wood Rot from Khaveman's Reptiles!

Wood rot is naturally decomposed hardwood that provides an important source of organic material and nutrition for many detritivorous invertebrates. As hardwood breaks down through natural decomposition, it develops a softer texture that makes it easier for wood-consuming organisms to utilize.

Our Wood Rot is an excellent addition to isopod colonies, millipede habitats, beetle breeding setups, and bioactive terrariums.

Whether you're establishing a new colony, supplementing your existing substrate, or creating a nutrient-rich environment for your invertebrates, Wood Rot is a valuable addition to your bioactive ecosystem!

Why Choose Our Wood Rot?

🪲 Excellent for Isopods – Provides naturally decomposed hardwood that many isopod species consume as part of their diet.

🐛 Great for Millipedes – Decayed hardwood is an important dietary component for many millipede species, supporting natural feeding behaviors.

🪵 Naturally Decomposed Hardwood – Features softened, broken-down wood material similar to what invertebrates encounter on the forest floor.

🌿 Perfect for Bioactive Setups – Adds organic matter and natural structure to suitable terrariums and invertebrate habitats.

🍄 Supports Decomposer Activity – Provides organic material that contributes to the natural decomposition processes within bioactive ecosystems.

💧 Helps Retain Moisture – Decomposed wood can absorb and hold moisture, helping create humid microhabitats.

🌱 Great for Custom Substrate Blends – Pairs perfectly with KhaveDirt™, KhaveLeaf™, Flake Soil, and other natural substrate components.

Please Note: Wood Rot is packaged by bag size rather than guaranteed weight or volume. The amount of material may vary depending on moisture content, wood density, and particle size.

How to Use

For Isopod Colonies: Mix Wood Rot into your existing substrate or place small amounts on the surface. Combine with KhaveLeaf™ and other suitable botanicals to provide a diverse selection of decomposing organic materials.

For Millipedes: Incorporate Wood Rot throughout a species-appropriate substrate blend. Many millipedes rely on decomposed hardwood and leaf litter as important dietary components.

For Beetle Larvae: Add to suitable larval substrate blends for species that consume decomposed hardwood. Specific beetle species may require different wood types and decomposition stages.

For Bioactive Terrariums: Mix Wood Rot with KhaveDirt™, Flake Soil, and leaf litter to provide additional decomposed organic matter for compatible cleanup crews.

For Springtails: Incorporate into appropriately moist substrate areas to provide additional organic surfaces that can support microbial and fungal growth.

Storage & Care

  • Store in a cool location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Maintain appropriate moisture levels when used in animal enclosures.

  • Avoid excessively wet or waterlogged conditions.

  • Inspect stored material for unwanted pests or contamination.

  • Replace or replenish as the wood is consumed and naturally breaks down.

Please Note

Each order comes packaged in your choice of a 4" x 6" or 6" x 9" bag.

Wood Rot is a natural product. Color, texture, decomposition level, particle size, and appearance may vary between batches.

Because naturally decomposed wood can contain microorganisms and fungal material, use only appropriately sourced, pesticide-free hardwood that has been inspected and prepared for animal use.

Not all decomposed wood is suitable for every invertebrate species. Ensure the wood type and decomposition stage are appropriate for your animals.

Wood Rot is intended as a natural dietary and substrate supplement and should be incorporated into a balanced, species-appropriate habitat.
