🌿🕷️ Substrate is super important when it comes to tarantula care! 🌿🕷️

The right substrate not only provides a comfortable habitat but also helps regulate humidity and temperature. For burrowing species, a deep layer of substrate allows them to dig and create their own little hideaways. For arboreal species, it helps maintain the necessary moisture levels.

Coconut fiber, peat moss, and vermiculite are popular choices, but always make sure it’s clean and free of chemicals. Remember, a happy tarantula starts with a well-chosen substrate!

Caribena Versicolor

Known for having a rather calm disposition, the pink toed tarantula’s tendency to jump as they would in the wild can sometimes be misinterpreted as their being flighty. While tarantulas don’t really gain anything from handling (except sometimes added stress), the Antilles pinktoe tarantula is quite tolerable when it comes to being handled. They are more likely to flee than bite since their first line of defense is flinging poo at what they determine to be a threat.

As a New World species, the venom of Caribena versicolor is considered relatively mild, but these tarantulas still possess the capacity to bite. If you or someone you know has a severe allergic reaction to a bee or wasp sting, it is highly recommended that they do not handle your pink toe tarantula. The Antilles pinktoe tarantula also has a fuzzy body full of urticating hairs, but instead of kicking the hairs off, they are more likely to rub them off in passing. Take care to wash your hands after handling this tarantula so that you don’t unknowingly spread these hairs to your eyes or face.

This species is an arboreal trap door, which blends the trap with the surface of trees, and ambushes any prey that walks across. Definitely the most advanced hunting tactic of any tarantula!

While this species is not the most hardy species, we find that as long as you have the correct set up, this species is not difficult to have success with. That is exactly why we do all the work for you and send you an enclosure that is set up and ready to use, so you do not have to stress about doing things correctly!

Feeding tarantulas is pretty fascinating! They mainly eat live prey like crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Depending on the size of your tarantula, you might want to feed them once a week or so.

For smaller tarantulas, make sure the prey isn’t too big – about the size of their abdomen is a good rule of thumb. Always remove any uneaten prey after a day to keep the enclosure clean. And remember, some tarantulas might fast for a while, especially during molting, so don’t worry if they skip a meal here and there. Happy feeding! 🕷️🍽️. **NOT MY VIDEO
